Stretcher bars are used by artists and framers to construct a wooden frame for the purpose of mounting canvases. Custom Stretcher Bars Available
Our custom stretcher bars are made with expandable mortised corners, and are available in 2″ Regular, 3″ Large, and 3″ Large with 1-3/4 Cap. Cross-braces can be configured to your specifications. To order custom stretcher sets, you will need to: a) provide the artwork dimensions, b) select a bar size (2″, 3″, 3″ with Bar Cap), and c) specify the quantity and size of crossbars desired. The appropriate size keys will be included when your custom barset is packaged. One-sided stretcher barstock is also available in 2″, 3″, 3″ with 1-3/4 Cap, as well as a Dual-Size profile, which can accommodate both 1-1/4 and 1-3/4 widths. All of Foster’s barstock profiles may be ordered by the lineal feet, and therefore do not include expandable mortised corners or keys.

Stretcher Bars vs Strainer Bars
When working in an art-related business, sooner or later a request will come up as to whether or not you are able to stretch a canvas. Some simply use strainer bars to accomplish this task, however, strainers are not considered acceptable for stretching fine art because of their inability to expand.
